Opportunities and achievements

Local impact and global reach

We combine global reach with a local perspective, with 96% of our partners recognised in Chambers Asia Pacific’s legal rankings. We go beyond the conventions and expectations of a typical law firm to make a tangible difference for our people, clients and communities. This was recognised in the 2024 Beaton Client Choice Awards with DLA Piper in New Zealand awarded the 'Best provider to financial and insurance services' and named as a finalist in the Customer Experience category for law and related services.

Celebrating every voice

Over a third of our people are active in our five People Networks, and we are proud of our diverse team. To deliver our commitment of providing equal opportunity and breaking down barriers faced by under-represented groups, we have partnered with The King's Trust Aotearoa New Zealand to launch our Head Start New Zealand programme. The programme supports talented young people who face barriers to entering the legal profession; offering internships, mentoring, and networking opportunities to help them realise their potential.

Supporting our communities

We make a substantial annual commitment to pro bono work, with 92% of the New Zealand firm actively involved, at an average of 37 hours per lawyer per year. This is well above the New Zealand average of 20.4 hours reported in the Thomson Reuters’ Pro Bono Trust Index 2022, which ranked DLA Piper as the highest pro bono contributor when compared to local law firms. We work with individuals and organisations which could not otherwise afford counsel, providing advice across a wide range of specialisms and geographies.

Laura Scampion, Country Managing Partner, Auckland

As a leader, I love bringing people on board to share this exciting journey – be they graduates or lateral hires. The quality of local and global instructions that my colleagues and I get to work on here is simply exceptional.

Natasha Wilson, Head of IT, Auckland

Technology is constantly changing and advancing, so I love the challenge of continual learning and applying the knowledge to solve complex problems.
