The role

We are looking to hire an associate with between 1 – 3 years' experience with a focus on Belgian Public Law including urban planning and environmental law to join our top tier-team team in Belgium.

DLA Piper’s Public Law practice in Belgium is at the forefront of many high-profile public law matters across Belgium, providing services in a wide range of zoning, permitting and environmental issues. It is also particularly active in PPP and state aid matters, as well as public procurement and government contracting, and has strong regulatory know-how, especially in the energy and (other) environmental sectors.

As a public lawer you will advise a wide range of both public and private sector clients on all aspects of administrative law, including urban planning and environmental law and in particular: 

  • Offer the whole scope of legal services to our clients (public authorities as well as private actors) with a focus on permitting and zoning, urban planning and environmental law , as well as wider aspects of public law and administrative law
  • Draft contracts and legal advices
  • Develop his skills as a Lawyer, a real estate and an infrastructure, construction & government contracting sector expert and a strategic business advisor
  • Be involved in contentious matters and court procedures before the Council of State, the Council of Permit Disputes the civil courts and any other administrative or judicial courts
  • Advising on aspects of EU law and other international regulatory frameworks as relevant to our client’s activities


  • Belgian Master’s degree in Law obtained, and can show evidence of an attractive academic track record. 
  • Qualified to practice as a Lawyer in Belgium 
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in Public Law, preferably with a focus on urban planning and environmental law
  • Native Dutch speaker with excellent command of English and French (verbal and written) 
  • High work standards with strong service orientation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • You have excellent legal skills and an analytical mind, with attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise and efficiently deal with complex files
  • Well organised, proactive, flexible, pragmatic, social and a team player
  • Ability to work in a fast paced international environment
  • Accuracy, confidentiality and punctuality are second nature to you
  • Keen on working in a dynamic yet demanding and rewarding context
