We are looking for a Solicitor with commercial experience in the mining sector and also a Solicitor with contentious experience in the mining sector. So, if you are an emerging mining sector specialist in Perth with a desire to play on the global stage, DLA Piper is the perfect platform for you.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • assisting AVZ Minerals in obtaining a return for shareholders from the Manono Lithium Project in the DRC including ICSID and ICC arbitration proceedings;
  • advising POSCO on the acquisition of a minority interest in Mineral Resources' lithium operations;
  • assisting a PE fund specialising in mines and metals with the deployment of capital in Australia;
  • advising the WA mining industry on the test case in relation to whether the holder of a miscellaneous licence is liable to pay Shire rates;
  • advising on the acquisition of operating copper mines in Kazakhstan;
  • advising a gold miner on the retention of its tenement portfolio including proceedings before the Mining Warden;
  • implementing an Asian steel-maker’s green-steel vision in Australia;
  • advising in relation to the proposed development of brine lithium resources in South America;
  • assisting on the acquisition of a portfolio of renewable energy projects;
  • negotiating a split commodity arrangement to unlock value in a substantial WA exploration portfolio;
  • assisting with the global expansion of one of Australia’s leading mining contractors;
  • assisting with tenure and approvals for the development of an underground compressed air storage facility utilising an underground mine for construction access;
  • supporting administrators on the management and sale of a distressed mining project; and
  • drafting the Somali Mining Act and Regulations.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a Solicitor qualified in Australia or a Commonwealth jurisdiction;
  • Have experience in mining and an interest in building a career in mining;
  • Be commercially minded;
  • Have a desire to work collaboratively as part of a high performance team;
  • Have the confidence to use their own initiative;
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
