We’re looking for a Senior Associate, or a high-performing Associate with at least six years' experience ready to step up, to join our Corporate team in Auckland working predominantly in the energy and natural resources sector.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of international investment in New Zealand’s key sectors. You’ll advise a diverse global client base on a wide range of corporate matters, including M&A, corporate governance and structuring, and foreign investment regulation. The role offers exposure to cross-border transactions, collaboration across multiple jurisdictions, and the chance to work with some of the most influential clients in the market - such as Ingka Investments (IKEA), Aquila Capital, Stafford Capital, Yamaha Motors and Mondelēz.
You’ll also contribute to high-profile transactions in the energy and natural resources sector, with significant growth opportunities in this sector, where DLA Piper is recognised as a market leader in New Zealand.
In addition to managing complex matters, you’ll play a key role in mentoring junior lawyers.
About the Team
DLA Piper’s Corporate team is known for its market-leading expertise in complex, cross-border transactions. In your immediate team of seven, you’ll support three partners, while taking an active role in supervising and mentoring junior team members.
You’ll also be part of the broader Corporate team, which includes eight partners and approximately 30 lawyers across Auckland and Wellington, with regular collaboration across our international offices.
Our team operates at the forefront of sophisticated, high-quality matters that both challenge and inspire. Within this supportive and collaborative environment, you’ll be encouraged to grow, lead, and contribute meaningfully to the team’s success, while exploring diverse and engaging areas of work that will broaden your expertise.
About You
We're seeking someone who brings:
- 6+ years’ PQE, ideally from a top-tier or international firm
- A proven track record in corporate transactions, with particular experience in M&A and general corporate matters
- A pragmatic approach, with the ability to manage complex client relationships independently
- A commitment to mentoring junior lawyers and contributing to team development
- A global mindset, with adaptability and enthusiasm for working across cultures and time zones
- Excellent communication, leadership, and technical skills
A genuine interest in the energy and natural resources sector will be highly regarded, though not essential.
We welcome applications from overseas candidates. If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and thrive in a dynamic, international environment, we’d love to hear from you.
