The role


We are recruiting an Engineer in the Service Operations team within IT. The IT function is a key part of our business services and operates internationally with key hubs in Leeds, Warsaw and Australia (Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth).

As an Engineer you will have advanced experience in engineering and support in a Service and Operations environment and a deep understanding of the relevant fields of expertise (e.g. Infrastructure, Applications, Networks, Security etc.)

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communications skills, both oral and written as well as having a thorough knowledge of the business and the technical aspects of the area being supported and the hardware and software environment in which it runs. Alongside this they will need to deal with difficult and sometimes complex problems.

Experience of Information systems concepts and practice as well as working in a fast paced, complex global environment with multiple regulatory requirements is a distinct advantage. 


  • Within a broad area of competence, take ownership of incidents,  problems and other requests for support and determine the appropriate action to take.
  • Provide advice and guidance to junior colleagues.
  • Support the Operations Lead  by ensuring 3rd parties are managed and perform to agreed measures if and when required. 
  • Progress requests for support and ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed. 
  • Liaising with systems development staff and software suppliers on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems. 
  • Providing technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. 
  • Ensuring all tasks and procedures are carried out effectively and efficiently to agreed levels of service or specific requirements of Service or Operational level agreements. 
  • Documenting all work using required standards, methods and tools, including prototyping tools where appropriate. 
  • Developing plans for installation and commissioning of hardware and software are appropriate and following the prescribed specifications. 


  • Full understanding of on premise Palo Alto firewall and Cisco ASA with Firepower Services is essential. 
  • Ability to work with Cloud-Native Network Security Platforms is desirable – Azure Firewalls, ZScaler ZIA, and ZPA.
  • A good understanding of monitoring and diagnostic toolsets such as LiveAction, Wireshark & ZDX together with the ability to troubleshoot complex network and security problems. 
  • Appreciation of emerging network & security architectures i.e. SD-WAN, SASE, ZTN.
  • Appreciation NetDevOps principles and Network Automation techniques.
  • Strong communicator with the ability to engage and manage stakeholders from a variety of different backgrounds and disciplines.  
  • Knowledge of techniques for identifying, gathering and validating customers' needs in the delivery of IT services. 
  • Understanding and application of different development approaches.
  • Proficient in configuration management.
  • Understanding of Service Level Agreements, the purpose and composition of an SLA and the relationship between an SLA, an OLA and an underpinning contract for the supply of services.
  • Familiar with the principles and application of cloud/virtualisation and the use of tools and systems to manage virtualised environments. 
  • Knowledge of Corporate, Industry and Professional standards relevant to the IT industry and how to apply them.
  • Proficient in Network data security- The impact of Big Data on network security and mitigating threats including; Physical, electronic, firewalling, encryption, access and authorisation, protecting data at rest and in transit; defending against viruses and malware; integrating robust security controls into enterprise services and policies.
  • Familiar with Networking and Communications- The planning and management of the interaction between two or more networking systems, computers or other 'Intelligent' devices. 
  • Knowledge of Telecommunications protocols.
  • An Understanding of the principles, functions and operation of WI-FI components, routers, hubs and repeaters and the installation of WI-FI hot-spots with appropriate use of security and encryption techniques. 
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Must be pro-active and solutions driven.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally , understanding the needs, objectives and constraints of those in other disciplines and functions.
