The role

THE OPPORTUNITY

The DLA Piper team operates globally across more than 40 counties, but we're still locally connected. That's because trusting and collaborative relationships with our clients and each other are at the heart of our success. Giving you the platform to progress in a culture where you are empowered to make a meaningful impact.

A unique opportunity is available for a lawyer to join our Australian Pro Bono Team. DLA Piper’s Pro Bono Team values lived experience expertise and aims to centre the voices of rightsholders. The role will provide you with great responsibility and personal satisfaction. It also presents a rewarding opportunity for you to make a significant impact in the community.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

In your role, you will work closely with the manager of the Australian Pro Bono Practice to evaluate, allocate and monitor pro bono referrals, ensuring the delivery of high-quality service to all pro bono clients. You will assist with developing and implementing Australian pro bono projects, whilst building and maintaining strong relationships with pro bono clients and collaborators.

You will work on various pro bono matters using your legal skills; legal research, report drafting, submission writing, litigation, legal advice and legal education. You will be a firm representative at relevant events and conferences to promote the importance of pro bono and social justice.

ABOUT YOU

We know talent is more than what's written on paper. It's the energy you bring and the way you work with your team.

To make a significant impact in this role the ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1-2 years post qualification experience and someone who can demonstrate having a lived experience of being a refugee, stateless person or a forcibly displaced person. The role will be based in Sydney or Melbourne; however, the firm is open to remote arrangements from Brisbane or Perth.

To be considered for this role we are asking all candidates to submit a one page cover letter addressing their lived experience of being a refugee, stateless person or a forcibly displaced person and why they are interested in joining the firm for this unique opportunity.

If you are interested and fit the criteria for the above role and are ready to take the next step in your career, we want to hear from you. To be considered for this role please follow the prompts and submit your application including a resume and cover letter.
