We are currently recruiting for a Senior Lawyer to join DLA Piper's global competition team, to be based in Brussels, Belgium.

Whether our clients are engaging in M&A activity, implementing new commercial arrangements, dealing with regulators, are involved in State aid matters, or find themselves in a competition related dispute, the Brussels competition team advises across the full spectrum of competition law matters.

Main duties and responsibilities

As part of our market leading global team, candidates will enjoy a high-quality range of work as well as taking day to day responsibility for the full range of competition matters including:

  • advising our clients on merger control matters
  • advising on the EU Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR), as well as on multijurisdictional foreign direct investment (FDI) matters
  • representing clients before the European Commission and national regulators in competition law investigations and market studies
  • advising on State Aid matters
  • advising on all aspects of behavioural and commercial competition law
  • working closely with the wider international DLA Piper competition team and with clients as a trusted business partner
  • taking a proactive approach to business development opportunities

About you

We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies. Candidates who have between 5 – 8 years’ experience are likely to have the right level of knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role.

The ideal candidate will:

  • be a qualified lawyer in an EU jurisdiction
  • have strong competition law experience gained at a leading law firm
  • have multi-disciplinary experience, including investigations, behavioural, merger control, FDI and FSR work
  • be able to demonstrate a deep understanding of the technical issues that are key to clients
  • have experience working across jurisdictions and advising international clients
  • be fluent in English. Being fluent in Dutch would be an asset
  • be capable of building and developing their own network of internal and external contacts
  • draft documents using a commercial, client focussed style
  • comply with professional standards and all relevant regulatory obligations
  • comply with the firm's systems, policies, and procedures in all matters - including compliance, financial systems and time recording
  • know and understand how to best utilise information and research resources
