DLA Piper are hiring a Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join our Payroll & Benefits Team in the Sheffield office on a 12 month fixed term contract.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will provide accurate, efficient, and timely processing of the group payrolls, whilst supporting the wider Payroll Team and providing cover for the Payroll & Benefits Manager through a period of change whilst the company embeds new systems, processes, and procedures.

This role will provide cover for the Senior Payroll & Benefits advisor in checking employee records, calculation of salaries and applicable deductions, whilst ensuring 100% accuracy in all records.

The Payroll & Benefits Specialist will also be responsible for running UK monthly payroll; dealing with exceptions and completion of statutory reporting for PAYE.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work with Payroll & Benefits Manager to ensure supervision of day-to-day operation of the payroll team & weekly tasks to include monthly payroll sign off, creation of BACS, RTI & EPS returns
  • Provide support to Payroll & Benefits Manager during a period of change for the team
  • Deputise for Payroll & Benefits Manager and build relationships with HR Business Partners, HR Benefits team and key internal stakeholders
  • Provide support to team in reconciliation of all month end accounts and recharges
  • Collaborate with relevant teams for annual salary and bonus review, to include reconciliation of all changes associated with this
  • Have working knowledge of calculating manual enhanced Maternity, Parental and Shared Leave
  • Support Payroll & Benefits Manager with the roll out of payrolling all benefits and monthly reporting
  • Supervision of P11D process each year
  • Processing of Year End and filing of statutory returns
  • Support Payroll & Benefits Manager and HR Benefits team with all benefit renewals each year and work with both to plan any system configuration in relation to this change
  • Ongoing monthly sickness calculations, formatting of working file, double checking interface file, ensuring deductions have been calculated and input correctly. Calculation of sickness deductions, where required and ensuring that all employees are paid within sickness policy. Prepare letters and compilation of sickness summary each month for HR Business Partners
  • Provide assistance to set up of monthly benefit windows on our benefit platform (Darwin) including checking of monthly cut off reports
  • Checking of all information for Partners to ensure monthly drawings are processed
  • Consulting with HR colleagues on system improvements to Success Factors
  • Support both the Payroll & Benefits Manager and benefit team with updating of the benefit systems and payroll databases with any relevant changes
  • Detecting anomalies and dealing with queries from employees regarding payroll related matters
  • Function as a point of contact for any enquiries offering excellence in customer service
  • Support the Payroll & Benefits Manager in data retrieval as well as audit support
  • Provide support to Payroll & Benefits Manager in UK Payroll Pension re-enrolment and reporting to Pension Regulator
  • Support pension reconciliation process; balancing of pension contributions, collation of pension for current month vs previous month, analysis of new hires / leavers
  • Work with Payroll & Benefits Manager on system improvements and efficiencies
  • Deputise for Payroll & Benefits Manager during periods of leave

  • Experience of finance accounts reconciliation
  • Knowledge of Success Factors, SAP & Resourelink Payroll is desirable
  • Experience of Pension Enrolment
  • Experience in Maternity, Paternity & Shared Parental Leave calculations
