The role

The Senior Marketing & Business Development (MBD) Manager will work directly for the Head of MBD UK, playing a key role in developing and executing the go-to-market strategy for Clients and Sectors in the U.K.

This role requires an analytical thinker with excellent written skills and extensive experience in marketing and business development, capable of driving revenue growth, deepening client relationships and enhancing the firm’s presence in the UK market. 

The Senior MBD Manager will work closely with the Head of MBD UK to align strategies with the global business, to measure ROI and achieve business and marketing objectives for UK Clients and Sectors and the firm.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All activity will be carried out in line with, and delivered through, the UK Clients and Sectors operating model which incorporates the UK Client Group, with associated workstreams, and the UK Sector Forum.

Go to Market Strategy

  • Deliver the comprehensive overarching go-to-market strategy incorporating plans for the UK Sectors and UK Client Group workstreams and client development programme.
  • Collaborate with office, sector and practice group peers and leaders to align marketing and business development initiatives for the UK with firmwide goals.
  • Act as a change agent to influence and drive the implementation and adoption of firmwide systems and processes on the ground in the UK. 
  • Identify market opportunities, trends and insights to inform strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor and assess the effectiveness of activity providing data-driven reviews and recommendations for improvement.

Clients and Sectors

  • Work with the teams to build and maintain strong relationships with key clients / key client relationship managers, understanding clients’ needs and identifying opportunities for growth.
  • Working with the Sector MBD leads, develop tailored Marketing and BD plans for priority sectors ensuring alignment with overall UK and global strategy.
  • Drive the client listening programme in the UK using insights to improve service delivery and client engagement.  In line with the international programme’s objectives, and working alongside peers and partners, play a major part in delivery of UK expectations and achievement of targets.
  • Ensure we are using global programmes and service offerings such as WIN, Law& and ESG effectively for the benefit of our clients.

Business Development

  • Through the CRM and Best Practice Workstream and the UK Sector Forum, support partners in identifying and pursuing new business including opportunities for cross-selling. 
  • Use market research and competitive analysis to inform business development efforts and identify growth and profile development opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain a log of key, priority and growth clients showing a pipeline of business development opportunities, tracking progress and success through metrics. Identify business opportunities in existing and new clients.
  • Support the onboarding of lateral hires helping them to integrate into the UK business.  

Marketing and Communication

 

  • Coordinate the delivery of global thought leadership and campaigns in the UK, making sure best practice is being followed and that the activity is driving business development and helping to improve our brand positioning.
  • Oversee the management and execution of marketing activity including internal comms and digital marketing efforts. 
  • Strengthen DLA Piper’s brand in the UK market by encouraging the widespread awareness and use of the UK messaging.
  • In collaboration with the central PR team and peers within office, sector and groups, coordinate the UK’s PR and external media engagement effort to maintain and improve market profile and brand positioning.
  • Provide regular measurement reports and insights.

Team Leadership and Collaboration

  • Manage and mentor team member/s to foster a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Work closely with peers and teams in the UK and around the global firm, in different functions and including partners, to ensure alignment and to drive cohesive and effective marketing efforts in the UK.
  • Identify opportunities to drive greater efficiencies in MBD activity, striving for continuous improvement.
  • The job holder may be required to undertake additional duties from time to time.

ABOUT YOU

  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Senior MBD manager level, or Manager level with a minimum of 5 years MBD experience. The role would suit a candidate looking to expand in an international organisation.
  • A sound knowledge of Marketing and BD processes and a solid understanding of new business processes, CRM and the emerging technologies needed to help win and retain clients.
  • Sales techniques and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication, analytical and project management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy.
  • A proven ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Experience in dealing with a demanding workload and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work to deadlines, be methodical and logical, and thrive in a robust and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to see delegated tasks through to completion at a high standard.
  • Ability to stay calm and composed in demanding situations.
  • Display a consistently positive attitude with a ‘can do’ approach and a collaborative working style.
