The role

This is a unique opportunity for a Restructuring Associate to join the Restructuring Group with a specific focus on Special Situations work.  You will join to work with a successful team of highly skilled lawyers led by Legal 500 ranked Partner David Manson, internationally working across global special situations funds work.  The team is in growth mode with an Associate hire being key to adding strength to the client offering against a high profile client win and and pipeline work.  This is a great opportunity for an ambitious Associate to play a key role in supporting a recognised Partner in this field whilst developing your career on a global platform as part of a Global Restructuring team.

This is your opportunity to be part of a specialist team working on an integrated basis with our Finance Group including opportunities in significant cross-border work.  You will support a client base that is rapidly expanding, including a mixture of asset managers, hedge funds, private credit and private equity.  Mandates focus on all manner of special situations across Europe and globally.
You will deliver exceptional results to clients on a broad range of complex issues including: 

  • Debt and equity rescheduling and refinancing
  • Restructuring and reorganisation strategies
  • Rescue planning and implementation
  • Restructuring structured and leveraged finance vehicles
  • Security enhancement and prioritisation
  • Distressed mergers and acquisitions
  • Distressed debt trading
  • Non-performing loan advice
  • Deployment of rescue capital  
  • Analysis of fulcrum security and preparation of special situations document reviews
  • Primary and secondary flow trading opportunuities assessment 

You will play a cradle to grave role being involved directly with key clients as a central part of the team. We will empower and support you to build quality relationships with clients across the market so that you can cement relationships both individually and institutionally as the practice grows.
You will also play a role in pitching for new work to hone your business development and marketing skills, which together with mentorship and development opportunities firm wide, will allow you to become a specialist lawyer on a global platform.

We do not set upper or lower limits of PQE for any of our vacancies.  We have however given an indicative PQE as an approximate guide for applicants. Candidates who have between 2 and 4 years’ PQE are likely to have the right level of knowledge and have gained the right level of experience needed to be able to undertake this role. 
Solicitor or barrister, ideally qualified in England & Wales or a Commonwealth jurisdiction 

  • In addition, you may have a background working in US Law firms or with an understanding of US (New York) Law financing instruments
  • You may have a dual qualification with both England & Wales, New York law qualification given the nature of the client work, although this is not essential
  • You will ideally have had exposure to Special Situations restructuring work and will need to have had experience cross-border and on international restructuring matters
  • You will ideally have worked in a Restructuring/Special Situations practice that sources opportunities through analysing public materials about financial stress and distressed in key markets 
  • You will have worked on Special Situations document review projects, analysing key terms of debt instruments for a Group/Borrower and considering different scenarios analysis
  • You will be commercially astute and stays current on key legal and business news 
  • With excellent skills in communication, client relations, and team-working 
  • Providing a professional, quality service in a timely manner, and responding effectively to requests from internal and external clients
  • You will create confidence in the team and the firm
  • Recognising and seizing opportunities for the firm, including repeat business
  • Building and developing own network of internal and external contacts
  • You will have an awareness and play a key part in business development initiatives and identify ways to contribute
  • You will maintain a controlled, objective and flexible approach under pressure
  • Be proactive and innovative
