The role

We are recruiting a Management Accountant to join the UK Management Accounts team based in our Sheffield office.

This is an important role with responsibility for the monthly accounting, annual budgeting and reforecasting for a number of international indirect cost areas and review and maintenance of controls and reconciliations over the Balance Sheets of the UK entities.

The role also has responsibility for the preparation and audit of the year end reporting packages for several UK entities.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monthly management accounts for your areas of responsibility, including reviewing draft numbers before GL close, liaison with global shared service centre in Poland, calculating and posting month end journals, investigating monthly variances to budget
  • Monthly reporting for your areas of responsibility to indirect cost Service Director and UK Head of Finance and contributing to other UK and central finance reporting as required
  • Collaboration with the service areas and stakeholders for your areas of responsibility on the annual budget and reforecast process
  • Reconciliation of Balance Sheet and intercompany accounts. Identification of any corrections required, taking responsibility that these are processed on a timely basis.
  • Preparation of accurate and complete year end reporting packages for UK entities, related audit schedules and supporting information. Liaison with external auditors and the Group Accounts team through the annual audit process
  • Other ad-hoc projects and preparation of other information and reporting as required such as VAT, external surveys and for internal business requirements
  • Be a point of contact in central finance for your areas of responsibility including responding to queries and information requests

ABOUT YOU

  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA / ACCA / ACA or equivalent)
  • Strong technical background and be confident technically
  • Advanced Excel and Power BI skills
  • Experience of SAP and TM1 would be an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be comfortable with communicating with a wide range of stakeholders from both finance and non-finance backgrounds
  • Naturally curious mindset, with a desire to understand the story and the business implications behind the numbers
  • Attention to detail and enjoy problem solving
  • Able to challenge current practice and thinking and to be challenged in order to improve processes
  • Self-motivated, with a logical and organised approach to work
  • Able to work independently as well as being part of a team, and have a strong client service orientation
  • Comfortable operating in sometimes ambiguous situations, demonstrating a flexible and collaborative personal working style
  • Comfortable multi-tasking and working to conflicting timescales on multiple priorities in a robust and fast-paced environment

Finance is a highly valued, professional team who act in the Firm’s best interests, successfully managing international finance, compliance and tax obligations.   We are globally consistent and accessible, mindful of local requirements and support our partners, legal and business services professional to meet our clients’ needs.

The central finance team for DLA Piper International is located predominantly in Sheffield, with local finance managers also located across each office in Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. The UK Management Accounts team is part of the Accounting, Control and Compliance team, which in turn is one of five key central teams. The others being, Partner Accounting and Taxation, Commercial Finance, Finance Service Delivery and Finance Systems.

The UK Management Accounts team supports the UK Head of Finance and all indirect cost Service Directors and also works closely with other teams across central finance.
