The role

We are looking for an Senior Compliance Accountant to support the Head of Finance – Belgium. 

In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Finance to ensure that the country’s financial statements and compliance aspects are covered. 

DLA Piper are embarking on one of the most important transformation programmes that the firm has ever undertaken. We will significantly change how we operate across our International business and the impacts will be far-reaching. Over the next 2-3 years we will re-think and streamline current processes; implement world class technology (SAP HANA; SuccessFactors; Service Now); deliver enhanced levels of customer service across our international business – both internally and to our clients.  

As Senior Compliance Accountant for Belgium, you will have ample opportunity to contribute to this transformation programme for the region.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You ensure timely and accurate registration and posting of the profit and loss accounts and the reconciliations of balance sheet accounts
  • You ensure a timely and qualitative monthly, quarterly, yearly closing 
  • Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non-compliance
  • You solve accountancy issues and provide advice to the team
  • You draft and monitor all internal compliance declarations
  • You draft and monitor different declarations (surveys, VAT declarations, corporate income tax, fee statements) 
  • You follow-up and deliver compliant financial statements and related documents 
  • You coordinate and organize the activities on AP, GL, Treasury, Compliancy and Taxes 
  • You advice and align with internal and external expert colleagues on taxes, risk and treasury
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tasks assigned by the Head of Finance 
  • Collect and identify operational metrics across the company and can convert this into meaningful information 
  • You propose, set up and follow up on accountancy procedures and lead improvement projects, including the creation of standard/ad-hoc reports, to ensure that the best possible financial services are guaranteed together with the Head of Finance and all finance colleagues.

ABOUT YOU

  • You have a master’s degree in business management or finance, and you have 2 to 5 years relevant experience in a similar role
  • You master English and either Dutch or French, spoken and written 
  • You have good interpersonal and communication skills 
  • You are proactive by nature, a critical thinker and willing to learn fast and take up new challenges 
  • Strong change management understanding and support policy change across an international firm 
  • Ability to identify areas of process improvement and suggest potential solutions
  • Able to handle multiple priorities, working to sometimes conflicting timescales in a fast-paced and challenging environment whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail  
  • Able to build trust to develop effective relationships, internally and externally 
  • You can communicate at all levels within the company
  • Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously whilst working in line with policy and still achieving departmental goals 
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite, particulary Excel to assist with reporting requirements
  • Experience of providing support and training for team members 
  • Demonstrates a versatile and flexible approach that is essential at key financial points of the year
  • Knowledge of SAP 4/Hana is a plus
