Our communities

Head Start

Head Start is our initiative designed to support talented students from groups which face cultural, social or economic barriers to entering the legal sector. Through Head Start we are addressing social mobility and improving diversity by ensuring equality of opportunity for students from all backgrounds.

Head Start operates in Australia, China, Kenya and the United Kingdom.

New Perimeter

New Perimeter is DLA Piper’s non-profit affiliate that provides long-term pro bono legal assistance in under-served regions around the world. New Perimeter supports access to justice, social and economic development, sound legal institutions and women’s advancement.

Founded in 2005 as part of our commitment to support legal advancement worldwide, New Perimeter’s vision is to harness the skills and talents of DLA Piper lawyers to further a more just world for all.

Global Scholarships

Our two-year Global Scholarships programme supports outstanding law students from less developed countries and helps them define and achieve their professional goals. The programme has involved students from countries that include Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Senegal, Solomon Islands, Uganda and Zambia.

Responsible business

We’re proud to be one of the first law firms subscribing to the UN Global Compact’s 10 universal principles concerning human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption. We continue to actively promote its universal principles through our strategy and daily operations.

As part of our commitment to the UN Global Compact (UNGC), we produce an annual Communication on Progress against the UNGC’s ten universal principles and broader UN development goals.

Our partnerships

Protecting the most vulnerable

We focus on supporting child protection through our partnership with UNICEF. With our support, UNICEF can continue its vital work to ensure children can go to school instead of work, avoid child marriage and be safe in their communities.

We have donated more than £2 million in cash and £6 million in pro bono advice.

Pro bono work

Giving back

Our pro bono work is focused on the rule of law, children’s rights and access to justice for displaced people around the world. We are proud to be one of the largest providers of pro bono legal services, donating over 200,000 hours globally in 2018.
