What we’ve achieved

We have transformed how we deliver secretarial services for our fee earners. Our approach includes sharing workload among a team, and allowing secretaries time to focus on their development and to take up opportunities that were not available with the traditional model. This includes managerial roles, secondments and a broader range of skills.

We recognise the talent we have in our secretarial community. Where possible, and where we have resourcing gaps, we do inter-office transfers/secondments to other local offices – this gives us an opportunity to promote individual development, networking and sharing knowledge.

What we’ve achieved

We strive to give our secretaries the opportunity to develop with our in-house learning and development offerings. We pride ourselves in the strong history we have of secretaries progressing to take leading roles in the strategy-setting and day-to-day running of the secretarial function. We also recognise the importance of our secretarial community; they are integral in the implementation of all new business service initiatives and project leads ensure super-users are identified across all offices with all new initiatives.

What we’ve achieved

All secretaries have access to online training to ensure that no matter where you’re located and no matter how big or small your office, training is available. Two of our key offerings are:

  • The Legal Technology Curriculum, a task-based competency-driven curriculum focusing on technical skills. Our e-learning platform allows all secretaries to complete the modules at their own pace.
  • Ways of Working, a programme for all business service areas at DLA Piper, aimed at constantly improving the quality, consistency and efficiency of the services we deliver. This underpins our learning and development programme to develop skills alongside other professional and functional competencies.
