What has surprised you most about DLA Piper?

Three things stand out to me, as follows: open-mindedness; out-of-the-box thinking; and constant communication and constructive feedback. An open environment allows colleagues to be creative, feel at ease to share opinions and enables better problem-solving. Constructive feedback has enabled me to get guidance, improve my approach and develop how I share ideas.

Is there anything you would like to highlight about your experiences at DLA Piper?

Being able to work globally benefits clients and colleagues. The firm's global reach allows me to exchange ideas with colleagues in other countries and participate in cross-border projects.

I've participated in the firm's Flash programme which has involved spending two weeks in our Paris office. It was an incredible experience that has broadened my professional and personal horizons. This is one of the many opportunities enabling colleagues to work in another international office.

Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?

Stay curious, be open and proactive. Embrace every opportunity to gain hands-on experience, whether through internships, volunteering or part-time jobs in legal settings. Always stay true to your values and think about what's important to you in your career.

Find your niche and build the skills that will help you succeed in your chosen area of law. While a strong academic foundation is essential, it's not enough on its own. Effective communication is crucial, not just in courtrooms (if you specialise in litigation) but in all interactions.

Building trust with clients is key to a successful legal career, so focus on developing strong interpersonal skills. Networking with legal professionals can provide valuable insights and opportunities. Ask questions and don't hesitate to seek guidance when needed.
