Why did you choose to work at DLA Piper?
My choice was quite simple – I wanted to work in an international law firm because I was attracted by the chance to cooperate with colleagues from other countries. I liked the fact that the Prague office is relatively small, so I could work on different areas of law without having to specialise. Although I'm officially in the Corporate practice, I also work on regulatory law (AI, cybersecurity, data protection) and intellectual property and consumer law.
How would you describe the culture at DLA Piper?
Friendly and cooperative, both among the lawyers and other staff, who are always willing to give advice and help if needed. Having been at DLA Piper for almost nine years now and having worked my way through several positions from junior to senior roles, I always try to help and advise.
Do you have any advice for students aspiring to pursue a career in law?
Do what you enjoy and want to understand more about and then focus on improving your knowledge and skills. Colleagues and clients will appreciate it. There's a difference when, for example, a technology contract is written or revised by someone who enjoys technology and has it as a hobby outside of work versus someone who considers it a "necessary evil" and has to look up some terms to understand the contract. Blending the enjoyable with the useful is the perfect combination! By working at DLA Piper for large, well-known clients, you often see the results of your work externally, which gives you an extra boost of motivation.
