We advise clients in a broad range of sectors including: financial services, energy and natural resources, hospitality and leisure, consumer goods and retail, life sciences, industrials, infrastructure and construction, media and sport, real estate and technology.
Our lawyers have a solid understanding of the local laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China and a thorough appreciation of local business style and approach. This wealth of knowledge and our thought leadership enable them to provide effective strategic, commercial and technical legal advice to our clients.
We advised China National Materials Company Limited (1893.HK) (Sinoma) on its merger with China National Building Material Company Limited (03323.HK) (CNBM), an unprecedented merger by way of share-exchange in the history of pure H-share listed companies.
The merger is part of the Chinese government’s plans to consolidate production domestically and refocus its industries internationally, following the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative. Once combined, it will manage 100 plants in countries covering the ‘One Belt, One Road’ region in three-to-five years, including countries in Africa and the Middle East.
We advised a consortium comprising Qumei Home Furnishing Group and Huatai Zijin Investment on the US$631 million public takeover of Ekornes, the largest furniture manufacturer in the Nordic region.
The transaction has required advice across multiple jurisdictions including China, Norway, Thailand, Germany, Vietnam, Luxembourg and the United States, and showcases DLA Piper’s outstanding global capabilities. Our team included lawyers based in Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Oslo, Luxembourg, Singapore, New York and Hamburg.
Three lawyers from our China team were named as Acritas Stars 2019. The Acritas Stars Report is the result of the analysis of thousands of interviews with general counsel and other senior leaders working within legal departments around the world. The Stars programme was developed to provide a source of highly recommended lawyers based purely on client feedback, free from the influence of law firms.
For the ninth consecutive year, DLA Piper earned the top legal advisor ranking globally for overall M&A deal volume in 2018, according to Mergermarket’s league tables. DLA Piper was also ranked number one by Thomson Reuters in its 2018 M&A deal volume ranking. With these results, DLA Piper consolidates its position as a leading global legal advisor.
