The Johannesburg office undertakes work across South Africa and operates as a hub for work in other parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. The office focuses on business generated domestically, regionally and internationally, drawing on the strengths of DLA Piper’s global presence and client base.
Our Casablanca office offers the services of a multi-disciplinary team with in-depth knowledge of the Moroccan market. In addition to the considerable opportunities the country offers, our office aims at providing an entry point to the African continent, as we assist our local and international clients with their external growth strategies and expansions.
We have extensive, proven know-how in the most important African business sectors including financial services, consumer goods, energy and natural resources, infrastructure, construction and transport, and technology and telecoms – both in an advisory capacity and in complex litigation and international arbitration.
A wide range of organisations trust us to help deliver their objectives, such as leading national and multinational companies expanding into Africa or investing there. Others include project sponsors, governments, private equity funds, public entities, banks and financial institutions.
Africa is a key focus for our global pro bono initiative; activities have included increasing access to justice in Namibia and promoting financial inclusion for African women. Through our global scholarships programme we are sponsoring students from Ethiopia, Senegal, Uganda and Zambia.
Year after year, DLA Piper is recognised as one of the most active law firms on the African continent, including International Law Firm of the Year, Highly Commended (African Legal Awards 2018) and #1 in African M&A for deal volume (Mergermarket 2018).
