The role

The SAP Operations Manager is responsible for supporting the SAP S4HANA platform and integrated interfaces for DLA Pipers Finance and HR Systems.

Working closely with the SAP BASIS team to provide critical support, maintenance and administrative activities across the SAP landscape (SAP ECC 6.0, SAP Enterprise Portal 7.0, MDM, Hana). The team also focuses on continued service improvements (CSI), SAP performance and landscape optimization and driving automation. The BASIS team is part of the SAP Platform capability that is striving to provide a comprehensive and effective service level and work in conjunction with the 3rd party suppliers.

About the Team
The IT SAP Platform is a new service offering within IT to support the new SAP platforms covering HR and Finance Services.  The team has been formed to cover end to end service levels to the business services within DLA Piper and is supported by an underpinning 3rd party to provide Level 3 Application and platform expertise.  The IT SAP Platform works within IT and collaborates with other teams within IT and Finance Systems to ensure that ITIL best practice is followed and that consistent resolutions are delivered to the business.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the availability and performance of the S/4 HANA system
  • Oversee the work and outcomes delivered by Fulcrum Basis team
  • Vendor interaction to monitor the work of the S/4 HANA Basis team
  • Working with the USA finance teams to ensure data is correct 
  • Working to agreed SLA levels
  • Ensuring Service Run books and materials are up to date 
  • Ensure DR processes work and DR testing takes place at agreed times
  • Working to agreed SLA Levels
  • Technical advisory for SAP project implementation
  • Work with Change & Release Management, Functional Leads and team members to ensure all operational activities are planned and delivered effectively.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to SAP Operations 
  • Review the performance of the Basis team and identify improvement opportunities
  • Provide periodic updates on performance of Basis team to SAP S/4 Application Service Manager
  • Oversee Basis Administrator functions like Health Checks, Administration, Upgrades & Patching, Transport Management, Database Management, Printing, Access Management, Interface Management, License / Certification Management etc.
  • Periodically review thresholds for System Monitoring and provide suggestions for performance tuning
  • Review solutions/Architecture provided by Basis for various projects/major Incident/Problem resolution

This role involves working shifts and providing an on-call service. The working hours will generally cover the Hong Kong, UK and European business hours – office based for standard local times and on-call at all other times. Weekend work is expected every month to implement productive changes in the maintenance window.
ABOUT YOU

The role holder will have experience of working on large-scale international business transformation programmes preferably with experience of working on programmes that involve the introduction of new technology and have:

  • Proven experience of SAP or ERP Service Management – ideally within the legal sector and/or professional services or global scale environment. 
  • Strong experience of either Finance or IT department and their operating processes.
  • Strong experience and understanding of Legal practices and/or business processing.
  • 5+ years in complex SAP implementations
  • 3+ years in S/4 HANA design/implementations in a lead role
  • Expertise in Architecture design and management of high availability systems
  • Certifications: SAP Certified Technology Associate – SAP S/4 HANA System Administration, SAP Certified Application Associate – Transportation Management in SAP S/4 HANA
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent education
  • Good understanding of ServiceNow 
  • Excellent understanding of ITIL best practices
  • Agile and DevOps mindset – Fluent in both; promoting & demonstrating best practises; leading the way
  • Good understanding of SAP Solution Manager 
  • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter who thrives in an ever-changing, fast-paced business environment.
